Yogendra Karki starred with bat and ball as Region-VI (Baitadi) hammered Region-IX (Dhangadhi) by seven wickets in their first match of the Senior One Day National Cricket Tournament at the TU grounds on Monday.
In the Group ‘B’ game, Yogendra picked up 5-15 from 10 overs to skittle out Dhangadhi for just 89 runs in 37.2 overs. Yogendra played his part in a successful run chase as Baitadi replied with 90-3 in just 20 overs.
Openers Prem Tamang and Roshan Nepali (22) eased the chase for a low total with a 49-run first wicket stand. Dhangadhi had some respite when Binod Lama removed Roshan, Umesh Pahari (naught) and Prashant Bista (nine) in quick succession but the total was too low for them to defend.
Prem and Yogendra did the rest with the latter remaining unbeaten on 16 off 22 balls. Tamang made 31 not out from 57 balls. Both batsmen hit four boundaries each.
Earlier, two run outs and a wicket from Kamal Airee had already jolted Dhangadhi before Yogendra demolished their middle order, effectively the entire batting line-up, striking regularly. Kamal also picked up two wickets for Baitadi.
Skipper Raju Rijal was the lone fighter for Dhangadhi making 39 off 74 with four fours and a six before he was dismissed as the ninth batsman. Opener Sunil Dhamala (11) was Dhangadhi’s next best performer with the bat.
