Yeti Airlines, Kantipur TV victors on first day

Yeti Airlines and Kantipur TV filed victories in the Coca Cola Indoor Corporate Cup cricket tournament that kicked off on Thursday at the Velocity Arena in Ratopool.

Yeti Airlines registered a slim nine-run victory over NCC Bank in Group ‘A’ riding on an all round performance from their veteran cricketer Prafull Vaidya.

Vaidya took his team to 84-5 in 12 overs with an unbeaten 33 from 27 balls clobbering two fours and a six. Narendra KC also chipped in 14 runs for Yeti. Prafulla then picked up two wickets alongside Rabi Shara to restrict NCC Bank to 76-6.

Prajwol Regmi top scored for NCC with a 26-ball 24 not out that included a six. Suraj Dhungana (14) and Sudip Panthi (10) were other NCC batsmen to make runs in double figures.

In Group ‘D’, Kantipur TV beat Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) by six wickets with Roshan Shrestha hammering a scintillating 54 off 32 balls. NSJF made 83-3 in 12 overs before Kantipur replied with 84-1 in 10.1 overs.

Roshan’s innings included three sixes and four boundaries. NSJF bowler failed to pick up a wicket. Ujjwal Prashant  (13) and Sandesh Katwal (11) also made runs in double figures for Kantipur.

Earlier, Subash Humagain was the highest scorer for NSJF making a 27-ball 28 that included a six and a four. Avash Ghimire made 21 not out from 19 balls, while Dipendra Pokharel (11) crossed double digits. Abhushan Gautam took two wickets for Kantipur.

Likewise, Sipradi Trading (Group ‘B’) and Gorkha Brewery (Group ‘C’) earned walkover victories from their opponents. The four-day tournament is organised by Nepal Sports Management with 12 teams taking part. The top two teams from each four groups will make it to the quarter-finals.

The opening ceremony was made special by a match between celebrities and national cricketers that included national team skipper Paras Khadka and Sharad Vesawkar.

Actor Rima Bishwokarma, rapper Yama Buddha, former Miss Nepal runner up Nagma Shrestha, women’s team skipper Rubina Chhetri and vice captain Mamata Thapa played for the celebrities.
