Gyanendra Malla-led Colors X-Factor knocked out Kantipur Gurkhas to remain in hunt for the final of the Wai Wai Everest Premier League .
In their third match of the tournament, X-Factor overcame Gurkhas by 15 to end their tournament campaign on a low note. X-Factor crawled to 124-8 before Avinash Karn held firm in the penultimate over to turn the game as Gurkhas were stopped at 109-7.
Gurkhas ended up the tournament with three points, while X-Factor have four from three and if they win both of their remaining games, they will qualify for the final. The top two teams after the round robin league will reach the final.
With captain Basanta Regmi and Antim Thapa forging a half century partnership rescuing the team from 44-4, Gurkhas required 24 runs from the last two overs. But Avinash conceded just four runs and removed Basanta as Gurkhas were left with a herculean task in the last six balls.
They went on to lose two more wickets before crashing to tournament’s second lowest total. They also have the record of lowest total making 95-9 against Panchakanya Tez .
Amar Singh Routela took 3-33 for X-Factor, while Karn had two scalps. Pradeep Airee top scored for Gurkhas with 31 off 24 hitting three sixes and two fours, while Antim made 30 off 33 with two fours. Regmi scored 25 off 39.
Earlier, X-Factor didn’t have big contributors with man-of-the-match Yogendra Singh Karki making 30 off 28 with four boundaries. Gyanendra (20), Rajesh Pulami Magar (17) and Amar Singh Routela (16) were other modest contributors for them.
Lalit Singh Bhandari and Basanta took two wickets each for Gurkhas.
