Win Divison-II, Get Millionaire

The government has planned a “Win Division II, Get Millionaire” kind of reward for the national cricket team preparing for the ICC World Cricket League Division-II to be held in Namibia from January 17-24 next month.

During a ceremony to honour the national team for their victorious campaign in the ICC World Cricket League Division-III held in Kuala Lumpur, Youth and Sports Minister Purushottam Poudel revealed the plans of honouring cricketers with one million rupees each if they win the Division-II in Namibia.

Poudel said the government has already made the decision in its recent Cabinet meeting. The government has also rewarded the national cricketers with one million apiece after they made it to the ICC World Twenty20.

Nepal had participated in their maiden ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh in May this year after finishing third in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers held in UAE in November, 2013. The one-million-rupee reward given for reaching the World Twenty20 is the biggest in Nepali cricket history.

The Division-II tournament will be participated in by hosts Namibia, the Netherlands, Kenya, Canada and Uganda along with Nepal. The Division-II sends the top two teams in the ICC World Cricket League Championship and ICC Intercontinental Cup.
