Warrios win as Colors fade away

National team skipper Paras Khadka’s Vishal Warriors recovered from their shocking loss to Sagarmatha Legends defeating Gyanendra Malla-led Colors X-Factors by five wickets at the covered hall grounds in Kanchanpur in the Ncell Nepal Premier League (NPL).

Warriors – comprising of only three members of the current national team in Paras, Sagar Pun and Ramnaresh Giri – were shell-shocked when a Binod Bhandari-led Legends floored them by 107 runs at the Fapla grouns in the inaugural day.

However, the youthful team of Warriors suggested they couldn’t be written off from their favourites tag in a clincial display against X-Factors who were restricted to 180-9 in 50 overs. Deepesh Khatri replied with an unbeaten half century as Warriors finished at 181-5 in 48.1 overs.

Deepesh struck three boundaries and two sixes in his unbeaten 50 from 65 to hand Warriors their first victory in two matches. Prakash KC also contributed 33 off 67 with two fours, while Suraj Prasad Kurmi scored 26 off 71 with three hits to the fence.

Skipper Paras was dismissed for 19 off 27 – his second below-20 score in two matches – hitting a six and a four and Manjeet Shrestha made 15 not out from 13 with three fours. Kumar Thapa took 2-31 from nine overs, while Amar Singh Routela, Sanjam Regmi and Raj Mohammad took one wicket each.

Earlier, X-Factors rode on a marathon knock from their skipper Gyanendra who made 77 off 128 to hold the innings. Gyanendra hit six fours and two sixes. Amar Singh (16) and Kumar Thapa (16) helped X-Factors gain some respectability with the No 10 and 11 batsmen rescuing the side from a humiliating total.

Amar Singh struck a six and a four with Kumar hitting three boundaries in 13 balls. Rahul Pratap Singh (14) was the only remaining X-Factors batsmen to make runs in double figures. Ramnaresh Giri once again put best performance picking up 4-42 from 10 overs with one maiden, while Yagyaman Kumal bowled a disciplined 10-over spell taking 2-27. Manjeet and Sushan Bhari Shrestha also had one scalp apiece.

Ramnaresh had taken 3-49 from 10 overs against Legends on Wednesday and his fine performance today won him the man-of-the-match.
