Biratnagar Warriors have put their one foot in the Qualifier of the Everest Premier League sweeping aside Sharad Vesawkar’s Bhairahawa Gladiators by 35 runs for their fourth consecutive victory in the tournament.
Electing to field first, Gladiators made a good comeback with the ball restricting Warriors to 149-6 in 20 overs. Warriors continued to make most of their bowling strength shutting down Gladiators innings at 114 all out in18.3 overs.
Warriors now have eight points from four matches and now look in the firm position to seal the top two spot for Qualifier. The winner of the Qualifier reach directly the final and loser will wait to meet winners of Eliminator match between the third and fourth placed teams.
Gladiators, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat in the tournament after two consecutive victories. Warriors are the only team to beat in this season now.
Warriors innings once again revolved around their Hong Kong duo of Anshuman Rath and Babar Hayat as the two shared 97 runs for the second wicket leading the team to what was a winning total.
Rath brought his second half century of the tournament scoring 57 off 50 with eight bundaries and Hayat scored 36 off 35 hitting two boundaries and a six. Both fell to Hari Shankar Sah who took 3-35 from four overs.
Skipper Paras Khadka made a 12-ball 15 hitting one six, while Pranit Thapa Magar (14) and Karan KC (11) were other batsmen to make runs in double figures. Aarif Sheikh also took two wickets in the only over he bowled.
Pradeep Airee and Hari Shankar had top scored for Gladiators with 18 runs each. Pradeep hit four boundaries in his run-a-ball innings. Skipper Sharad (two) was bowled by Basanta Regmi who returned the figures of 3-22 from 3.3 overs.
Avinash Karn was the pick of the Warriors bowlers taking 4-25 from four overs including the key wickets of Puneet Bista, Aarif, Hari Shankar and hard-hitting Rohit Kumar Paudel (two). Bista (15) and Aarif (10) made runs in double figures.
