Viral mask-man Dipendra torments Bagmati with fifer

Dipendra Singh Airee took no time to get viral when he put mask on to take to the field against Province 1 in Prime Minister Cup Twenty20 National on Tuesday. Nepal is seeing rapid surge in the Omicron variant of the Corona Virus.

A screen grab of Dipendra while preparing to bowl wearing the mask published in one of the popular Facebook pages of India drew a huge attention. It has over 6.6k likes, over 1900 of them are laughing emoticons.

On Tuesday, Dipendra had his laugh at Bagmati Province during the semi-final. With masks on, the former national team vice-captain Dipendra took five wickets to single handedly throw Gyanendra Malla-led Bagmati out of the match.

With in-form Kushal Bhurtel and fast bowling allrounder Karan KC already ruled out of the match, the Policemen were already a depleted side. To make the matter worse, their batting mainstay Dipendra was out for a duck as NPC were reduced to 27-2 in four overs after they elected to bat first.

It was only a 78-run stand between opener Pawan Sarraf and Anil Kumar Sah (25) that consolidated NPC innings before a late cameo from Dilip Nath guided them to a challenging 155-5 in 20 overs.

Pawan hit three each sixes and fours in his 54-ball 59 and Dilip chipped in a 16-ball 31 that included two each sixes and fours. Nandan Yadav and Rijan Dhakal two wickets each for Bagmati.

Bagmati were right in the game when skipper Gyanendra played fluently guiding them to 50-1 by the eighth over. Dipendra then stepped in and dismissed Gyanendra in the first ball to end his 43-run partnership with Aadil Khan (27). In the same over he trapped Bipin Acharya leg before wicket to tighten the screws.

Man-of-the-match Dipendra demolished the Bagmati middle order and was well aided by Sagar Dhakal who took 2-14 as Bagmati were restricted to 105-8. Dipendra has so far taken 11 wickets — seven of them wearing mask — and is now the surprise leading wicket taker.
