Vinay shines in Cheetahs victory

Vinay Bhandari returned with man-of-the-match performance as Informatics College Cheetahs earned their second consecutive win in the Machhapuchhre Cricket League Twenty20 on Thursday.

The No 3 batsman shone with both bat and ball as Cheetahs defeated organisers Machhapuchhre Lions by six runs. Vinay’s 19-ball 44 helped Cheetahs muster 121-7 in 20 overs before he returned to pick up two wickets to stop Machhapuchhre to 115-6 in their 20.

Machhapuchhre were reduced to 63-6 in in 15.4 overs but skipper Dipesh Khatri avoided the humiliation making a 24-ball 42 not out with three sixes and two fours and on the way shared 52 runs for the seventh wicket with Nirmal Chhetri (nine not out). Santosh K Shrestha, Joy Sharma and Kiran Pun also took a wicket each for Cheetahs.

Earlier, Vinay shared 52 runs for the third wicket with Samir Sen (14) and hammered three sixes and two boundaries in his whirlwind knock. Apart from Vinay, Kiran notched up 21 from 12 with a six and a four, while Joy Sharma (11) and Milan Thapa (10) also made runs in double figures.

Amit Chhetri picked up four wickets for Machhapuchhre.

In the second match, KKAF Syangja Challengers registered their first victory in the tournament beating Downtown Pokhara Lions by two runs. Challengers made 121 all out in 19.5 overs and stopped Lions for just 119-9.

Sudeep Poudel (40) and Kirshna Sen (42) top scored for Lions but after their departure, the lower middle order crumbled. Krishna hit six boundaries and a maximum in 43 balls, while Sudeep Poudel struck four sixes and two boundaries in 40 balls.

Man-of-the-match Ashok Shrestha and Ishwor Shrestha took two wickets each for Challengers who also had only two high scorers in Sangam Gautam (38 off 37) and Bishwa Thapa (33 off 18.

Both the high scorers hit three fours and two sixes apiece. Raju Gurung, Lal Bahadur Gurung and Kirshna took two wickets each for Lions.
