U19 national postponed for a day

Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament which was scheduled to kick off from Monday has been postponed for a day to Tuesday because of weather conditions. Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) informed about postpone of the tournament by a day organizing a press meet at Kathmandu on Sunday.


According to Uttam Karmacharya, acting General Secretary of CAN informed about it. “It has been raining from last few days. And it is predicted that situation will be the same till Monday and it will stop raining from Tuesday so we have made a decision to postpone the U19 tournament by a day”, Karmacharya informed during the press meet.


The tournament will be participated by all nine regions. The teams are divided into two groups, one consisting four teams and another with five teams. Team will play in round robin in the group stage while group winner and runner-up book ticket to the semifinal. As per the tie-sheet, Region No 3 (Kathmandu), Region No 7 (Janakpur), Region No 8 (Pokhara) and Region No 4 (Bhairahawa) are in Group A and Region No 2 (Birgunj), Region No 9 (Dhangadhi), Region No 1 (Biratnagar), Region No 6 (Baitadi) and Region No 5 (Nepalgunj) are placed in Group B.

Baitadi will play against Nepalgunj at Army Cricket Ground in Bhaktapur while Dhangadhi will play against Biratnagar at Pulchowk Engineering Cricket Ground during the opening day on Tuesday.

This tournament will also serve as the selection for the upcoming ACC U19 Premier League to be held in Kuwait from November 7-15 which is also regarded as the ICC U-19 World Cup qualification.


The winner of the tournament will get Rs 25 thousands as cash prize while runner-up will receive a purse of Rs 15 thousands. Man-of-the-series will get Rs 10 thousands while the best bowler, batsman and player-of-the-final will receive Rs five thousands each.


The final of the tournament which has a budget of 23 lakhs will be played on September 25 at TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.
