Tigers, Triton, Neplo Mart, Kaustuv sail into quarters

Chitwan Tigers, Triton International College, Neplo Mart and Kaustuv College made it to the quarter-finals of the AEC Super Cup Knock Out Indoor cricket tournament on Wednesday.

In their first round matches, Tigers sidelined Gorkha Knights by 28 runs and Triton hammered Tatwa Furnishing by 119 runs. Batting first, Tigers made 131 with Ishan Pandey making 30 and Krishna Negi chipping in 23 runs. Suman Pokharel took four wickets for Knights.

Knights in reply were restricted to 104 after man-of-the-match Bhagwan Shrestha took four wickets. The victory put Suman’s all round show in shadow as he also top scored with 30 runs for the Knights. Uddhav Thapa contributed 18 runs to the total.

Triton piled up a massive 175 runs in the 18-over contest after Pawan Shrestha scored 43 and Somesh Yadav collected 31 runs. Somesh returned with the ball to pick up four wickets as Tatwa were stopped at 56 runs. Somesh was named the man-of-the-match.

In other matches, Neplo Mart Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) by 47 runs and Kaustuv ran riot over Omega College with a thumping 155-run victory. Kaustuv became the first team in the tournament to cross 200-run mark after they amassed 212 runs in 18 overs.

Dipendra Mainali made 50 slamming tournament’s first half century and Prakash Bista notched up 42 runs. Man-of-the-match Dipendra put an allround show as he picked up five wickets to restrict Omega to 57 runs.

NSJF made 87 runs from 18 overs riding on 25 runs from Dipendra Pokharel but Nepalo Mart replied with 134 with Bibek Shrestha (37) and Suvam Pokharel (31) doing the bulk of scoring. Nishan Rai took three wickets for NSJF. Bibek was named the man-of-the-match.
