Thames International College defended the title of the Thames Inter-college Knockout Cricket Tournament at the Sainik Awasiya Mahavidhyalaya grounds in Bhaktapur on Wednesday.
In the final, Thames defeated College of Applied Business (CAB) by six wickets. Electing to bat first, CAB made 105 all out in 20 overs before a solid partnership between Bikram Baniya and Nikesh Shrestha saw Thames reply with 106-4 with 13 balls to spare.
After losing two wickets with just 12 runs on board, Bikram and Nikesh shared 78 runs for the third wicket that set Thames on course for victory. Bikram made 36 off 39 with four boundaries, while Nikesh finished off the chase making unbeaten 42 off 49 with six boundaries.
Poshan Guragain, Hukumji Shah and Tushant Khatiwada picked up a wicket each for CAB whose total was lifted by a 29-ball 27 from Santosh Paudel. Tushant (13), Posan (11) and Hukum (11) were other CAB batsmen to make runs in double figures.
While five CAB batsmen were victim of run out, Sanju Wosti, Nishant Shakya, Bikram, Nikesh and Roshan Shrestha picked up a wicket each. Nikesh was adjudged the man-of-the-match.
Bikram was named the man-of-the-series and best batsman for his 168 runs and four wickets, while Ankit Rawal of KIST was named the best bowler. Ankit took nine wickets in the tournament.
