Tez continue winning momentum

Panchakanya Tez continued their winning form in a combative victory against Kantipur Gurkhas for their third consecutive win in the Wai Wai Everest Premier League at the TU Stadium on Wednesday.

After put in to bat, a burst of opening spell from medium pacer Avinash Bohora saw Tez reduced to 6-4 then 45-6 before lower middle order lifted them to 129-8 in 20 overs. As star openers Subash Khakurel and Pradeep Airee were removed in the seventh over, Gurkhas slumped to 95-9 in their 20.

Nepalgunj bowler Avinash shook Tez top and middle order removing Sharad Vesawkar (one), Prithu Baskota (zero) and Aarif Sheikh (duck) in the second over after Lalit Singh Bhandari had got rid of Sanjay Shrestha (naught) in the first over.

Fresh from hitting 67 runs against Colors X-Factor in the previous match, Aasif Sheikh impressed once again with an 18-ball 32 with four boundaries and two sixes. However, his departure off Krishna Karki followed by the dismissal of Bhuwan Karki (two) reduced Tez to 45-6 in six overs.

But Pushpa Thapa and Dipendra Airee rebuilt Tez innings with a match-winning 52-run partnership leading their team cross 120-run mark. Puspa top scored in the game with a 43-ball 38 hitting three fours, while Dipendra made 22 off 34. Karan KC made 17 off 12 with a six.

Gurkhas lost Pradeep (12) and Subash (13) early in the game as they hardly recovered from the early slump after spinners tied up the middle order. Bhuwan Karki took a phenomenal return catch diving to his right removing Santosh Bhatt (13). Karan KC took crucial wickets of Pradeep and Anil Sah (duck).

Dipendra then displayed seer athleticism getting rid of four middle and lower middle order wickets bowling all of his victims. Man-of-the-match Dipendra celebrated all his dismissal with somersault, cheered by the crowd.

Sandeep Jhor was the leading scorer for Gurkhas making 17 not out in a sluggish 33-ball boundary less innings. Skipper Basanta Regmi also made 13 runs for Gurkhas who are now third in the table with three points from four games.

Tez have six points from three and a victory against Sagarmatha Legends on Thursday will put them in the final.
