Taylor tornado grinds Nepal in Division-III opener

Nepal lost to USA in their opening match of the ICC World Cricket League Division-III after a breathtaking 162 run innings from opener Steven Taylor and some late fireworks from Timroy Allen at Somerset Cricket Club grounds in Bermuda tore them apart.The 19-year old Taylor and Allen lifted USA to 366-6 after Nepal’s Division-IV rivals were asked to bat first. With a mountain to climb, Nepal were 272 all out in 49.4 overs. Skipper Paras Khadka top scored for Nepal with 73 off 64, while Sharad Vesawkar made 72 off 61. Paras hit nine boundaries and two sixes, while Sharad clobbered six sixesand four fours.Shakti Gauchan made 39 off 47 with two sixes and two boundaries.  Earlier, Taylor smashed 12 sixes and 12 boundaries in just 102 balls as USA piled on a mammoth total against a team that had defeated them twice during the ICC World Cricket League Division-IV in Malaysia last year. Taylor began his onslaught early in the innings and shared 125 runs in just 17.2 overs for the first wicket with Orlando Baker. Basanta Regmi gave the much-needed breakthrough to Nepal dismissing Baker for 37 off 56. Taylor, however, continued to play with aggression and reached his century off just 61 balls with a boundary of Paras. He shared another 74 runs with Sushil Nadkarni before Sanjam Regmi got rid of him caught by Basanta. Nadkarni made 28 off 36 and just when Nepal thought that they will now contain USA, Allen began to move his feet. After staying calm at the wicket in the beginning, Allen went on to hammer an unbeaten 67 off just 34 deliveries.Allen hit six sixes and four boundaries, while another unbeaten batsman Neill McGarrell made 22 off 27 in their partnership off 93 runs from the last 59 balls. Basanta took 2-46 for Nepal to end up as the most economical bowler. Amrit Bhattarai and Shakti also took one wicket each. Shakti was the most expensive Nepal bowler finishing with the figures of 81-1 in just nine overs. In other matches on Sunday,Yuganda beat hosts Bermuda and Oman beat Italy.
