Tallawahs throw away Mujeeb, Sandeep impetus in 36-run loss to Tridents

Afghan mystery spinner Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman and Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane continued to pick up wickets but Jamaica Tallawahs fail to convert the advantage losing to Barbados Tridents by 36 runs in the Caribbean Premier League on Wednesday.

Into their fifth match, a whirlwind 59-ball 85 from Kyle Myers lifted Tridents to a modest 148-7 before Tallawahs were restricted to 112-9 in 20 overs. Nkumraah Bonner, the top scorer for Tallawahs against Guyana Amazon Warriors a day before, once again held firm with a 28-ball 31 but other batsmen failed to deliver.

Jermaine Blackwood (run-a-ball-28) was the only other Tallawahs batsman to offer some resistance after Kiwi Mitchel Santner, Jason Holder and Rashid Khan took two wickets apiece for Tridents.

Tallawahs slipped to fifth in the points table after on net run rate after they were tied on four points each with Tridents and Warriors. Trinbao Knight Riders are solid at the top winning all their four matches.

Mujeeb, taking the new ball, did the damage early on removing Johnson Charles and Sai Hope with 20 runs on the board. Mayers resurrected the innings with a 63-run stand for the third wicket with Jason Holder (15). The dismissal of Holder off Carlos Brathwaite triggered a mini collapse as Tridents lost four wickets for just seven runs to be 90-7.

Sandeep removed Rashid Khan for a duck and bowled Ashley Nurse in his consecutive overs before Mayers once again rebuilt the innings. He shared 50 runs for the seventh wicket with Santner (20) before losing his wicket in the 19th over.

Mayers did the majority of scoring hitting eight sixes and two boundaries. Mujeeb took 3-14 from four overs and Sandeep continued to get economical with the figures of 2-16. He now has seven wickets in the tournament.
