Sunshine cast shadow on Far Western

Sunshine College of Bhairahawa sidelined Far Western University with a slim 11-run victory to enter the quarter-finals of the fourth SPA Cupon Monday.

After Golden Gate International College (GGIC) of Kathmandu earned a walkover victory from Tripura Sundari Campus of Accham, Sunshine labored hard to cancel out Mahesh Sah heroics to find a place in the last eight.

Sunshine amassed 173-7 in 20 overs with Mayank Yadav and Antim Thapa doing the bulk of scoring. Far Western, in reply, were folded for 162-8 but not before Mahesh taking them to the threshold of victory.

Nawaratn Saini took the initiative for Far Western smashing 18 off 10 with two fours and a six. After his departure, Dipak Malla and Niraj Chand (20) kept Farwest alive with a 48-run stand for the second wicket.

Sunshine finally broke the partnership through Shaban Ali who removed Niraj and the scores soon read 70-3 in 10.1 overs after Mayank Yadav dismissed Pappu Mal (one). Dipak though stuck to the crease and added another 37 with Anil Thapa (23) as Far Western crossed triple figures.

Dipendra Yadav and Mayanka Yadav picked up two wickets apiece in a space of three balls reducing Farwest to 108-5 in 15.1 overs. Anil was first to go for 23 off 13 that included two boundaries and a six followed Dipak who made 38 off 49 with three hits to the fence.

With defeat looking inevitable, Mahesh stepped in and gave an anti climax sharing a 41-run stand with Rajendra Chand (15). Mahesh made 34 not out off 17 with three sixes but other Far Western batsmen succumbed to Sunshine bowling.

Earlier, Sunshine were placed in a precarious position of 33-2 where their opener Anurag Sharma made 25 off 18 with five boundaries. Mayank and Antim defied Far Western bowling attack with a 73-run stand.

Antim was particularly menacing clobbering 40 off 26 with four sixes and two boundaries. Yadav at the other hand kept going and made a match-high 45 off 35 with five fours and a six. Sabin Shakya gave a finishing touch smashing 23 off 12 with three fours and a six.

Mahesh was the major performer for Far Western who also starred with the ball returning the figures of 3-31 from four overs. Mayank was the man-of-the-match.
