Sunrise, Vidhya set title clash

Sunrise Higher Secondary School of Region No 9 (Kanchanpur) and Vidhya Sadan HS School of Region No 2 (Birgunj) set the championship showdown of  the Inter-school Boys National Cricket Tournament at the Siddhartha Stadium on Thursday.

 

Sunrise defeated Scientific Education Academy (SEA) of Region No 7 (Janakpur) by 26 runs and Vidhya Sadan saw off Bhairahawa HS School of Region No 4 (Bhairahawa) by five wickets. The final is on Friday.

 

Sunrise managed 111-8 after they were put into bat first but their bowlers pulled off the game bowling out the opponents for just 85 in 18.3 overs. Prakash Saud destroyed the top and middle order of SEA reducing them to 5-4 in no time. SEA were heading towards a humiliating defeating only for No. 8 batsman Manoj Raut to offer some resistance making 39.

 

Raut hit three fours and four sixes in 17 balls before he was dismissed by Bhim Sarki. Saud picked up 4-9 from four overs, while Sarki and Sundeep Jora took two wickets each. Sarki was the man-of-the-match as his fluent 49 not out off 36 lifted Sunrise above triple figures. Sarki hit five boundaries, while opener Anil Kumar Thapa (20) was their next best contributor. Kailash Mandal picked up two wickets for SEA.

 

Bhairahawa were 103 all out in 16.5 overs in their match against Vidhya Sadan for whom the top three batsmen delivered guiding them to 104-5 in 19.2 overs. Opener Alfaz Mansuri made 21 off 25 with four fours and Saif Ali Hawari scored 19 off 18 with two boundaries. Samsad Ansari (15 not out), Gautam Sharma (17) and Aasif Sheikh (12) also chipped in some invaluable runs for the winners.

 

Earlier, Shah Alam top scored for Bhairahawa with 20 off 15 with Shankar Rana (19), Rajan Shahani (17) and Puran Kami (12) also contributing in double figures. Man-of-the-match Mansari also shined with the ball picking up 3-18 and was ably supported by Ansari (3-22) and Sonu Ansari (2-6).
