Sri Lanka wins by an innings and 248 runs

Sri Lanka has won the first test match against Bangladesh by an Innings and 248 runs with still a day remaining and lead two test match series 1-0 held at Dhaka on Thursday.


In the match Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field first. Batting first Bangladesh was able to make 232 runs in their first inning losing all their wickets. Shamsur Rahim contributed 61 runs while Shakib Al Hasan also 55 runs.


Sri Lanka in the reply of Bangladesh inning made a huge score of 730 runs with the help of double century from former captain Mahela Jayawardene and declared their inning after losing six wickets. Jayawardene who scored his seventh double century made not out 203 runs.  Likewise Kaushal Silva made 139 while Kithuruwan Vithanage also contributed not out 103.


Bangladesh who was 498 runs behind Sri Lanka’s first inning score were all out making just 250 runs and lost the match with a margin of an innings and 248 runs. Bangladeshi inning was destroyed by Dilruwan Perera who took five wickets.


Mahela Jayawardene was elected as man of the match for his not our 203 runs.


The second and last test match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will be held at Chittagong from February four.
