Sri Lanka starts with a win over Pakistan by 12 runs in the opening game of Asia Cup in the match held at Fatullah on Tuesday.
Sri Lanka winning the toss and electing to bat first made 296 runs in their 50 overs with the loss of six wickets with the help of century from Lahiru Thirimanne.
Thirimanne the highest run scorer for Sri Lanka made 102 runs in 110 balls with 11 fours and a six. Likewise veteran batsman Kumar Sangakar also contributed 67 runs while captain Angelo Mathews remained unbeaten making 55 runs.
Chasing the target of 297 runs Pakistan was all out making just 284 runs in 48.5 overs.
Captain Misbah-ul-Haq and wicket keeper batsman Umar Akmal making 73 and 74 runs respectively and tried to take their match towards win. But they failed to do so as fast bowler Latish Malinga took five wickets. Malinga who took five wickets conceding 52 runs was elected as man of the match.
