Spinners run riot on UAE batting

Nepal hammered United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 149 runs to make a triumphant start in the ACC U-19 Premier at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Friday.

Electing to bat first, Raju Rijal’s half century guided Nepal to 199 all out in 49.2 overs before spinners ran riot on UAE batting picking up 10 wickets for 16 runs to bundle them out for just 50 runs in 20.5 overs.

UAE had added 34 runs for the first wicket but they saw six of their batsmen failing to open the account and three players making one run each. Opener Waruna Perera top scored for them with 32 runs from 38 balls that included three fours and a six.

Zafri Zafardeen made 12 off 24 hitting one boundary. Sushil Kandel and Sunil Dhamala were the major architect of Nepal victory sharing six wickets between them in their collective 14 overs conceding just 19 runs.

Man-of-the-match Sushil picked up 4-7 from seven overs with three maiden overs, while Dhamala took 3-12. Prem Tamang also picked up two wickets in the only five deliveries he bowled in the day.

Earlier, Nepal lost openers Sunil Dhamala (one) and Sandeep Sunar (18) along with Aarif Sheikh (22), Rajbir Singh (five) and Yogendra Karki (two) to get reduced to 65-5 in 20.4 overs.

Rijal then anchored Nepali innings with two half century partnerships. First he shared 52 runs for the sixth wicket with Dipendra Airee who scored 20 off 34 with a six and a four. After Dipendra’s dismissal, Raju shared another 52 with Saurav Khanal.

Saurav was out for 24 off 30 that included three boundaries. Raju was out as the ninth Nepali wicket making 62 off 84 hitting six boundaries and a six. Nepal will play Afghanistan on Saturday.
