Left arm spinner Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi made a comeback into the team as Nepal on Thursday announced a final 14-member squad for the ICC U-19 World Cup Division 1 Asia Qualifier slated for in Singapore.
Lalit, a revelation in the recent tournaments and Dhangadhi Premier League to be precise, had broken into the youth set up with the 2015 ACC U-19 Premier and ICC U-19 World Cup Global Qualifier. But he lost his place for the 2016 U-19 World Cup and last year’s ACC U-19 Asia Cup before making another comeback.
The squad, led by leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, also includes 2014 ACC U-16 Premier duo of Pranit Thapa Magar (right-hand batsman) and left arm seamer Rijan Dhakal. Right arm seamer Kishor Mahato and left arm spinner Shahab Alam were the two new faces to represent Nepal in international arena for the first time.
Kishore was impressive in the few matches he got to play during the DPL, a tournament where Alam was the player-of-the-series.
The final squad, prepared following their performance in the last one-year’s domestic tournaments and last round of closed camp in Greater Noida, was announced by a three-member independent selection committee headed by ICC-Asia Chief Development Officer Venkatapathi Raju, national team head coach Jagat Tamatta and U-19 head coach Binod Das.
Sandeep Jora, Bikram Kumar Bhushal, Rashid Khan and Sushant Singh Thapa were kept as reserves. Other members in the team include Dipendra Singh Airee, Aasif Sheikh, Sandeep Sunar, Prakash KC, Anil Sah, Rohit Kumar Paudel, Aadil Khan and Pawan Sarraf with all the players competing in the ACC U-19 Asia Cup under Sandeep.
