SPA Cup to begin from January 30

The most awaited Hotel Devotee SPA Cup Inter-college Cricket Tournament is beginning from January 30 to February 7 in Dhangadi. A total of 16 colleges from across the country are participating in the league-cum-knockout tournament organized by Sudur Pashimanchal Academy offering a hefty cash prize of half million to the champions.



No other cricket tournament in Nepal offers a cash prize more than Rs 150,000. All the matches of the tournament which will be played under Twenty20 format will be played at the Seti Zone Police Office grounds. For the first time the organizers have also allowed each team to recruit two foreign-based players in their playing-XI. SPA Director Subash Bahadur Shahi was a proud man to leap ahead with the tournament that began with a cash prize of Rs 25,000 in its first edition in 2010.

“The tournament is a result of our passion and dedication. In every field we require passion and dedication to leap higher and we are proud to make it the biggest tournament of Nepal,” said Subash during a press conference in Kathmandu.

The participating teams include Golden Gate, Pentagon, Capital College and Research Centre of Kathmandu, hosts SPA, City College of Biratnagar, New Horizon of Bhairahawa, Holyland of Nepalgunj, Sunrise Boarding School of Kanchanpur, Tripura Sundari of Achham, Dasharath Chand of Baitadi, Namuna Mahendra HS School of Dadeldhura, Durga Laxmi of Attariya and Tribhuvan Campus of Tikapur, Kailali.

The tournament carries a budget of five million rupees with one million spent on the cash prizes. Hotel Devotee are the title sponsors, while Raika Tours and Travells, Bells Cafe, Om Trade Centre, Chaudhary Book Dipo and Dakshinkali Brothers are the co-sponsors.

Bhuwan Karki, the national team member and former U-19 skipper who will represent SPA in the tournament, acknowledged the value of the tournament. “For we cricketers this is no doubt a big tournament. I hope others will follow the SPA’s footsteps in organizing the event of this kind in every part of Nepal,” said Bhuwan. Hotel Devotee SPA Cup
