South African Chris Morris attracted Indian Premier League’s highest bid in history as the fast bowling allrounder was sold to Rajasthhan Royals in the mini-auction of the 2021 Indian Premier League on Thursday.
Morris, who had a base price of INR 75 lakh, was bought for INR 16.25 crores by Rajasthan. In the process, Morris beat Yuvraj Singh’s record of being the most expensive player in IPL auction. Yuvraj was picked up by Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) for 16 crores in the 2015 edition of the tournament.
Royal Challengers Bangalore had released Morris for this season despite having a decent performance with 11 wickets in nine matches. He has so far played 70 matches in the IPL scoring 555 runs and taking 80 wickets.
Bangalore, meanwhile, added Australian ‘Big Show’ Glenn Maxwell for INR 14.25 crores making him the fifth most expensive buys in the tournament history.
With former Australian Test opener Simon Katich as coach and India’s Birat Kohli as skipper, Maxwell will also play alongside South African master batsman AB de Villiers in a star-studded Bangalore line-up.
