Sonu returns after three years as final squad announced

Sonu Khadka made a comeback into the national fold after three years as a 14-member Nepali squad was named on Thursday for the upcoming ICC Women’s World Twenty Qualifiers for Asia.

Sonu had last played for Nepal in the 17th Asian Games held in Incheon, South Korea. The squad also sees the return of other three new faces in Roma Thapa, Laxmi Chaudhary and Ritu Kanojiya.

Rubina Chhetri will lead the Nepali team in November 20-27 event in Thailand. Sita Rana Magar is the vice captain, while other members include Jyoti Pandey, Sarita Magar, Nery Thapa, Indu Barma, Karuna Bhandari, Sabnam Rai, Kajal Shrestha and Sangita Rai.

Nepal will take on Hong Kong, Thailand, China and United Arab Emirates in Qualifiers from where only the winners will make it to the Global Qualfiiers next year.

From the 22-member squad that was undergoing closed-camp, Kabita Kunwar, Nitu Bhandari and Rekha Rawal were kept reserves. Shoba Ale, Alish Chhetri, Binu Budha Magar, Saraswati Chaudhary were axed out.
