Nepali cricketers Sompal Kami and Karan KC both made debut in the Abu Dhabi T10 League as the two seamers were hammered for runs but tasted victories after their respective franchise won their tournament openers.
Sompal, playing for Maratha Arabians, bowled first over for his franchise against Norther Warriors and had a decent start conceding just eight runs in the first over as the Sheikh Zayed International Stadium in Abu Dhabi. He was hit for a six in the third ball by Brandon King after collecting a couple in the second.
Warriors were 127-2 when Sompal came in to bowl the last over and was smashed for 20 runs. He could have walked away with a wicket in the last ball but Mossadek Hossain let go off the ball for a six.
Despite being hammered in their first innings, a scintillating 28-ball 73 from Abdul Shakoor led Arabians to 131-5 in exactly 10 overs. Shakoor’s innings included seven fours and five sixes.
Arabians needed eight runs from the last six deliveries and although Wayne Parnell contained them to three singles in the first four balls, Mossadek made amends hitting the South African for two consecutive boundaries in the last two balls.
In another game, Karan took to the field for Pune Devils and was introduced in the sixth over against Deccan Gladiators. After being hit for a boundary by Prashant Gupta in the third ball, Cameroon Delport smacked the Nepali bowler for a six off a no-ball as he ended up giving away 17 runs.
He was not given the opportunity to bowl again. Gladiators made 104-5 but opener Kennar Lewis carried the bat hitting a 28-ball 57 with six sixes and three fours. Devils needed 11 runs from the last two deliveries and Lewis struck skipper Kieron Pollard for consecutive sixes in the first two.
Emerging allrounder Kushal Malla is another Nepali to be signed in for the tournament and will eagerly await to see whether or not he will feature in the Team Abu Dhabi squad against Gladiators on Friday. Former Nepali skipper Paras Khadka is the mentor in Team Abu Dhabi.
