Som Pal Kami smashed a scintillating cenutry as Kathmandu ran riot over Nuwakot in the Wai Wai U-19 Regional Selection Tournament for Region No 3 Kathmandu on Friday.
Som Pal — the young cricketer earning a lot of praise in the recently held senior National Twenty20 — clobbered made 115 off 85 balls as Kathmandu amassed a mammoth 292 all out in 40 overs. Nuwakot in reply were squeezed out for 61 runs in 19.4 overs.
The highlight of the day was Som Pal’s innings studded with 15 fours and four sixes. Sharad Khaka made 35 off 41 with four boundaries, while Prakash Bisa hit six boundaries making 30 off 33.
Bibhatsu Thapa (25) and Ashish Dhami (20) also contributed in double digits. Kushal Pandey and Rajiv Maharjan picked up three wickets each for Nuwakot with Manjil Manjushree and Sanjay Shah had one scalp apiece.
In another match, Bhaktapur saw off Lalipur by 24 runs. Bhaktapur were 199 all out in 38.2 overs and stopped Lalitpur at 175 all out in 40 overs. Milan Thapa top scored for Lalitpur with 61 off 116 and Adil Khan made 39 off 46. Both batsmen hit five boundaries apiece.
Pawan Shresha made run-a-ball 12. Prakash Bista and Anil Karki took two wickets each and Shrawan Gautam had one.
Earlier, Sumit Maharjan made a composed 81 off 68 with seven boundaries and a six for Bhaktapur. Kiran Shrestha (28) and Shrawan (22) also made crucial contributions for Bhaktapur. Ujjwal Karki and Milak Karki took two wickets each for Lalitpur.
The four-team tournament will pick up players making Kathmandu squad for Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament which also serves as the selection tournament for the ACC U-19 Asia Cup beginning from December 6.
