Som Pal comes, Prithu returns for Qualifiers

U-19 bowler Som Pal Kami vaulted from ACC U-19 Asia Cup squad to the national team as the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Sunday announced a final 15-member team for the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers.After impressing everyone around Nepali cricket with his fiery pace, Som Pal was considered for the biggest tournament Nepal are going to play in their history. The ICC World Cup Qualifiers will send two teams for the ICC World Cup along with handing four teams ODI status for the next four years. Along with Som Pal, Prithu Baskota returned to the team from injury after losing an all-important ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers last month. Nepal qualified for the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 after defeating Hong Kong in the playoffs. While Som Pal replaced experienced left arm pacer Amrit Bhattarai, Prithu came in the place of left arm orthodox bowler Rahul Kumar BK. Rahul was in the team for Twenty20 Qualifiers but didn’t play a single match. Som Pal has been in Nepal for just three months after he came from Punjab, India to play cricket. His arrival has leased a new life in Nepali seam attack with coach Pubudu Dassanayake also expecting big from him.He was already considered for the 50-over Qualifiers but Dassanayake needed to expose him earlier and he did it through the recently concluded Journey To World Cup. Som Pal left a lot of impression picking up 10 wickets from four matches. Skipper Paras Khadka, Gyanendra Malla, Subash Khakurel, Anil Mandal, Pradeep Airee, Mahesh Chhetri, Binod Bhandari, Sharad Vesawkar, Basanta Regmi, Shakti Gauchan, Avinash Karn, Jitendra Mukhiya and Sagar Pun retained their place from the Twenty20 side.
