Smith to bat at No. 3 : Clarke

Australian cricket team’s test captain Michael Clarke has confirmed that Steve Smith will bat at number three during test matches against West Indies which will start from June 3 at Roseau, Dominica.

Clarke has hinted that Shaun Marsh will be opening inning for Australia while Fawad Ahmed or Adam Voges will be debut in test matches on Wednesday against West Indies.

Smith had batted at number three during Border- Gavaskar series against India and had done fabulous through his bat. Smith made 769 runs in four matches playing eight innings. He made four consecutive centuries and also made two half centuries.

“Steve Smith will bat at No. 3. That was 100%. Am going to Smithy and having a conversation with him, and he’s all for it,” Clarke said. “We spoke a little bit through the one-day series and the World Cup. Nothing was confirmed until we got on tour, so once he arrived I spoke to him and made it very clear where I wanted him to bat, and he’s very comfortable to bat there.”

25 years old Smith is also the vice-captain of Australian cricket team and had captained for team for last three of four test matches against India when captain Clarke was out of team after suffering hamstring injury.
