Silwal to lead CAN’s new ad-hoc committee

The
National Sports Council (NSC) has formed a new ad-hoc committee of the
Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) under the presidency of Ramesh
Silwal.

NSC Member Secretary Keshav Bista said the move was about
giving a way
out to the current crisis in cricket’s administration which
he claimed is without any executive officials.

A faction from the previous committee led by Tanka Aangbuhang
had held
the general assembly and elections choosing a new leadership
under Chatur Bahadur Chand but NSC had not given legitimacy to the body
claiming it had not completed due procedures to get recognized.

Silwal, who once worked as vice-president in the cricket governing
body, was also general secretary when former Sports Minister Purushottam
Paudel reformed the CAN last year and formed an ad-hoc committee under
the presidency of Binay Raj Panday.

In the newly formed committee there are three vice-presidents
from
three different major political parties. Three vice-presidents are
Rabindra Adhikari, CPN-UML parliamentarian, NC leader Sailesh Karmacharya
and UCPN Maoist leader Deepak Saud.

Former national team skipper Pawan Agrawal has been handed
the post of
general secretary, and another skipper LB Chhetri was been
appointed as member. Purna Lama, Nepal’s performance manager for the
WorldTwenty20 in Dubai and 50-over World Cup Qualifiers in New Zealand is
the secretary and Bharat KC is the treasurer.

The committee consists of Nirvana Choudhary, Managing
Director of
Choudhary Group, Ritu Vaidya, Managing Director of Vaidya
Organization, banker Diwakar Paudel, Dr Hari Shankar Shah, Ranjit Tamang,
Binayak Pokhrel and Suresh Lal Shrestha.

NSC had handed the responsibility to Bhawana Ghimire, CEO of
CAN
, to
perform day-to-day operations of the cricket governing body
until it comes out with a solution.
