Sainik Sharks of Sainik Awasiya Mahavidhyalaya and DAV Kwis of DAV School entered the semi-finals of the Wai Wai School Cricket Series on Thursday.
Sharks ran riot over KINS Rhinos of Kathmandu International School inflicting a 203-run crushing defeat and Kiwis overcame Galaxy Jaguars of Galaxy Public School by 40 runs. With two consecutive victories for both sides, Sharks stay at the top of the table in Pool 1 on better run rate.
Rhinos and Jaguars are out of knock out race and will now try their luck in the play off matches. Sharks posted a mammoth 233-5 in 20 overs after Dinesh Dhanuk punished the Rhinos bowlers making 75 off just 41 deliveries. Rhinos, in reply, were 30 all out in 12.4 overs with none of their batsmen able to touch double figure mark.
Mandip Bhandari took the heart out of Rhinos batsmen returning with a sensational figures of 5-4 from four overs keeping three maiden.
Dinesh was the star performer in the cold day who shared 120-run partnership for the second with Bishnu Kumal. Dinesh smashed 12 boundaries and a six. Bishu also shared 68-run stand for the first wicket with Sajal Bhandari (24). Shambhav Pokharel picked up two wickets for the losing side.
In the first match at the Sainik Awasiya Mahavidhyalaya grounds, Kiwis were restricted to 110-7 but bowlers did the rest for them squeezing out Jaguars for 70 runs in 13.4 overs.
Bamdev Jagari was the lone fighter for Jaguars hitting 46 off 37 with five hits to the fence. Ashutosh Ghiraiya picked up 3-17 for Kiwis, while Bimal Kumar and Sujal Gupta had two wickets apiece.
Gupta also shine with the bat for Kiwis making 28 off 31 with two boundaries. Shubham Jhawar made an unbeaten 22 off 23. Rajendra Pal picked up two wickets for Jaguars.
