Sharad Vesawkar’s Bhairahawa Gladiators got off their TVS Everest Premier League campaign off to a winning start beating Farveez Maharoof-led Kathmandu Kings XI by seven wickets .
Electing to bat first, Kings XI once again put a mediocre display with the bat to make 118-8 in 20 overs. Gladiators reached 121-3 in 16.2 overs as Kings XI were condemned to their second consecutive defeat in as many games.
Gladiators had lost their openers Hari Shankar Sah (14) and Pradeep Airee (two) with 24 runs on the board in 5.3 overs. But skipper Sharad Vesawkar and Indian recruit Puneet Bist combined for a 60-run partnership for the third wicket.
Sharad made 32 from 31 balls with four boundaries and a six. After the departure of Sharad, Puneet and Aarif Sheikh shared 37 runs in just 16 balls for the fourth wicket to sealing the chase.
Puneet made 42 from 28 with six boundaries, while Aarif struck a quickfire 23 from 11 balls with a six and a four. Sompal Kami, Amar Singh Routela and Sushil Kandel picked up a wicket each for Kings XI.
Earlier, Kings XI had a decent start after Sagar Pun (15) and Amit Shrestha added 31 runs in seven overs. Amit added another 30 runs for the second wicket with Raju Rijal but Kings XI innings continued to get slow paced with spinners operating for Gladiators.
Amit once again top scored for the side with 29 from 32 with four boundaries and Raju scored 22 from 30 with one boundary. Sagar Kumar was second best scorer for Kings XI with 28 from 25 with two boundaries.
Skipper Farveez Maharoof hit a six in his three-ball seven. For Gladiators, Dipesh Shrestha took three wickets and captain Sharad had two scalps. Puneet Mehra and Aarif also took a wicket each.
