Sharad’s Central share points with Mid-west

Persistent rain denied Sharad Vesawkar-led Central Region what could have been a handsome victory against Mid Western Region in the Prime Minister Cup One Day National cricket tournament on Tuesday.

In the second Group ‘A’ match at the TU grounds, Sharad won the toss and his bowlers justified the decision by bundling out Mid West for just 123 runs 43.2 overs. After the lunch, Central were 23-1 but rain intervened to wash out the rest of the day as points were shared.

Sonu Tamang (11) and opener Bhupendra Thapa (10) were batting at the centre before rain forced them out of the ground. On Wednesday, Central will take on Western Region who had lost their first match to Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club on Monday.

Earlier, medium pacer Rashid Khan gave early breakthrough removing Sushant Thapa for a duck in the first over and two wickets from Hari Shankar Sah saw Mid West reduced to 23-4 in 12.1 overs. Rajbir Singh then shared 41 runs for the fifth wicket with Pranit Thapa Magar pushing Mid West close to triple figures.

However, Mid West kept losing wickets at regular intervals and it was only Rajbir who saved the blushes of his team with a half century. Rajbir made 63 off 95 balls with three fours and a six before being dismissed as the ninth Mid West wicket.

Pranit made 20 off 44 with two fours, while Amar Singh Routela (10) was the only remaining batsman to scored in double digits. Kishore Mahato took 4-29 from 10 overs for Central, one of his wickets was that of Rajbir.
