Kathmandu and Lalitpur cruised to their second consecutive victories in the Regional Senior Selection Tournament for Region No 3 (Kathmandu) on Saturday.
Kathmandu hammered Nuwakot by 44 runs after man-of-the-match Niraj Bhattarai starred with the ball picking up four wickets. Batting first, Kathmandu made 125-8 from 20 overs and after Niraj’s splendid bowling spell, Nuwakot were bundled out for just 81 runs in 19.3 overs.
Niraj conceded just seven runs in his four-over spell. Som Pal Thapa and Arpan Kafle also picked up two wickets each for Kathmandu, while Nabin Pradhan had one scalp. Rajesh Hamal (17) and Abhiral Yadav (16) were the only Nuwakot batsmen to make runs in double figures.
Earlier, Niraj Basnet made a gritty 40 off 42 balls hitting three boundaries to take Kathmandu to a descent total. Som Pal also contributed with the bat making an unbeaten 26 from 19 balls that included two fours and a six.
Suman Uday made 18 and Sandeep Shrestha collected 11 runs. Nabraj Bhattarai and Dipendra Pyakurel took three wickets each for Nuwakot, while Abhiral and Sanjay had one scalp apiece.
In the second match, Lalitpur were barely troubled in their six-wicket victory over Bhaktapur. Bhaktapur were restricted to 100-8 before Lalitpur reached 101-4 in 14.4 overs.
Suraj KC’s aggressive innings of 40 runs from 24 balls was crucial in shaping Lalitpur’s victory. Man-of-the-match Suraj clobbered four sixes and two fours. Sujan Maharjan also chipped in 26 off 33 with four boundaries.
Prakash Bista took two with Nafeez Sheikh and Anil Karki also having one victim each for Bhaktapur.
Earlier, Shrawan Gautam made 23 off 24 and Abhay Poudel scored 22 off 31 for Bhaktapur. Ujjwal Thapa took two wickets for Kathmandu. Prabin Shakya, Kamal Sapkota and Nasim Akhtar also took one wicket each.
