Aakash Thapa scored a magnificent century as Chitwan claimed the Bagmati Province Selection title for the Prime Minister Cup One Day National cricket tournament on Tuesday.
In the final between two unbeaten teams at the Mulpani Cricket Ground, Chitwan crushed Kathmandu by a massive 193 runs on the back of an impressive century from Aakash, the second player in the side after Dipesh Shrestha to have a haul of experience.
Aakash scored a 119-ball 136 steering Chitwan to an imposing 260-6 in 40 overs. Sangharsha Poudel then picked up five wickets as Kathmandu were bundled out for just 67 runs in 25.4 overs. Only Rajat Timalsina managed to make runs in double figures of Kathmandu with a 24-ball 15. Dipesh bowled effectively taking 2-3 from five overs with three maidens. Sangharsha returned the figures of 5-25.
Earlier, Aakash anchored the Chitwan innings from the start beginning with a 49-run partnership for the first wicket with Robin Sharma (24). He added 45 runs for the second wicket with Ajit Bhandari (16), 55 for the third with Gautam KC and 52 for the fourth with Dipesh (19).
Aakash’s innings included 15 boundaries and five sixes. Gautam chipped in a 21-ball 32 with two sixes and as many fours. Chandra Kumar Budha, Suman Uday, Sanjam Regmi and Ariyo Poudel took two wickets each for Kathmandu.
Ishan Pandey of Kathmandu was adjudged the man-of-the-series.
