Saurav, Hashim omitted from 18-member squad

Saurav Khanal made 270 runs in the Prime Minister Cup One Day National Cricket Tournament with an average of 135. He had made three half centuries in the tournament that served as national team’s selection for Nepal’s ICC World Cricket League Championship away matches against Hong Kong. Two of his half centuries were unbeaten.

Saurav Khanal doesn’t fit in the 18-member squad that was announced on Wednesday.

Hashim Ansari struck a century against Nepal Armed Police Force Club and didn’t get to expose much after he was dismissed for two runs in one of the PM Cup matches and didn’t get chance to bat in the other. His team Central Region was out from the PM Cup league stage and so is Hashim from the final round of selection.

Saurav and Hashim were two of the PM Cup performers who were axed out from the final round of closed-camp for Nepal’s crucial ties against Hong Kong. Also facing the omission were Avinash Karn, Bikram Sob, Dilip Nath and Sunil Dhamala.

Nepal will now leave for India for a pre-planned final stage of preparation tour from where the final 14 members will be declared. Getting in to the 18 were emerging all rounder Kushal Bhurtel, left arm spinner Sushil Kandel and left arm seamer Lalit Singh Bhandari.

The squad also sees the return of seamer Jitendra Mukhiya, fast bowling all rounder Karan KC and opener Naresh Budhayer. Other members in the team include skipper Paras Khadka, Binod Bhandari, Gyanendra Malla, Sharad Vesawkar, Mahaboob Alam, Sompal Kami, Sagar Pun, Sushan Bhari Shrestha, Aarif Sheikh, Dipendra Singh Airee and Sandeep Lamichhane.
