Sandeep Lamichhane’s Jamaica Tallawahs entered the semi-finals of the Caribbean Premier League but not before getting support from rain and their nearest competitors losing on Thursday.
Tallawahs had their match against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots washed out with only 5.4 overs possible at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba. Later, Barbados Tridents surrendered meekly to Guyana Amazon Warriors for a defeat that sent Tallawahs in the last four.
Tallawahs, who still have two league matches in hand, are fourth in the table with seven points from eight games. Tridents (four points) and Patriots (three points) are knocked out of the competition with both teams left with only one game to play.
Unbeaten Trinbabo Knight Riders were already through with 16 points from eight games, while Warriors (12 points) and St Lucia Zouks (10) are behind them. Knight Riders and Zouks also have two matches left. Second placed Zouks have played all their 10 league matches.
Patriots, who desperately needed a victory to stay alive, were going strong at 46-0 before rain intervened. Evin Lewis scored 21 from 19 balls while Chris Lynn struck a solid 23 from 15 deliveries. Lynn smacked two maximums and a four. Lewis had hit two fours and a maximum.
Sandeep, meanwhile, didn’t have a chance to bowl and stays sixth in tournament’s highest wicket takers list with 10 scalps from seven games.
