Sandeep Lamichhane went unsold for the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League after the Nepali leggie failed to draw attention from any of the franchises on Thursday.
The Indian Premier Leauge held the mini auction during a ceremony in Chennai where South African allrounder Chris Morris was sold to Rajasthan Royals for 16.25 crores as the most expensive buy ever in tournament history.
Sandeep, whose globetrotting career included participation in three IPL, didn’t feature in a single match of the delayed 2020 edition which was held in the United Arab Emirates because India was hardly hit by Corona Virus pandemic.
He, however, has enjoyed successful stints in the Caribbean Premier League and Australian Big Bash League. Sandeep had set a base price of INR 40 lakh, double the price when Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) bought him in 2018. He featured in nine matches in two editions picking up 13 wickets.
His focus, for the time being, will now remain for Nepal’s national team matches, if they have any as the country had multiple series under the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 postponed due to the pandemic.
The most successful professional cricketer of the country will also try out his luck in other franchise leagues across the world. He has also been in the draft for The Hundred – another franchise tournament that England is launching for the first time this year.
