Rubina Chhetri played a captain’s knock smashing a 49-ball 68 as Province 1 registered their first victory in the Lalitpur Mayor’s Women’s Championship match on Monday.
Electing to bat first, a half century from Saraswati GM lifted tournament minnows Lumbini to 104-2. The total, however, was not enough after Rubina notched up an unbeaten 106-run partnership for the first wicket with Kajal Shrestha as Province 1 reached the target in just 13.2 overs.
The big stand came a day after Lalitpur Mayor XI’s Suman Khatiwada and Ashmina Karmacharya brought tournament’s highest partnership of 108 runs, for the fifth wicket, also against Lumbini.
Rubina’s innings was identical to the one played by Suman Khatiwada but her shots carried comparatively better class. Rubina struck 12 boundaries and a six, while Kajal hit three fours in her 32-ball 25.
Earlier, Barsha Rana (duck) lost her wicket early before Saraswati once again held the innings for Lumbini. She came into the match having made 46 not out on Sunday and followed that score with a 66-ball 50 not out.
She shared 59 runs for the second wicket with opener Nitu Bhandari (18)and 35 for the third wicket skipper Nary Thapa. Saraswati’s innings included five hits to fence. Nary made 15-ball 20 with three fours.
