Rookies Avinash Karn, Ram Naresh Giri and Sagar Pun have been handed a place in the national team for the ACC Emerging Teams Cup that will begin in Singapore from August 17.
Avinash – the seamer who picked up 28 wickets in the ACC U-19 Elite in Malaysia in May this year – along with Ram Naresh and Sagar played the 2012 ICC U-19 World in Australia and were called up for the first time in the national team.
Sagar had made his debut with senior national team but in the shorter version of the game. He was the part of the team that finished second in the ACC Twenty20 Cup.
The Cricket Association of Nepal axed fast bowlers Binod Das, Yagya Man Kumal and Jitendra Mukhiya from the 22-member preliminary squad with two surprise omission. Experienced seamer Amrit Bhattarai and veteran right arm off spinner Sanjam Regmi were kept reserve along with batsmen Mahesh Chhetri and Naresh Budhayer.
Paras Khadka will lead the side that includes Subash Khakurel, Anil Mandal, Pradeep Airee, Gyanendra Malla, Sharad Vesawkar, Prithu Baskota, Binod Bhandari, Rahul Kumar BK, Basanta Regmi, Shakti Gauchan and Chandra Saud. The 15-member squad will be in Sri Lanka from August 1-15 before leaving for Singapore directly. Nepal will meet the U-23 teams from Asian giants India and Pakistan with full strength team from Associate archrivals Afghanistan in the ACC Emerging Teams Cup. The Group ‘B’ features Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Singapore and the UAE.
