Rock XI, Makawanpur win big in Pokhara

Rock XI and Makawanpur Cricket Academy registered big victories in the Sponsor U-16 Academy Cup at the Machhapuchhre cricket club grounds in Pokhara on Monday.

Rock XI hammered Syangja Cricket Academy ‘A’ by 136 runs after amassing a tournament-high 184-9 electing to bat first. Syangja ‘A’ in reply survived for 18.4 overs and were bundled out for 48, tournament’s second lowest total.

Kushal Bhattarai (4-13) and Sushant Rai (4-5) shared eight wickets between them for Rock XI, while Sujan Gautam also picked up two wickets.

Earlier, man-of-the-match Manoj Gautam guided Rock XI to a huge total smashing seven sixes and two boundaries in his 27-ball 62. Madhav Bhattarai chipped in 18-ball 43, while Kushal also scored 22 runs.

Sagar Timalsina took three wickets and Basanta Gurung had two victims.

In the other match, Makawanpur hammered Kasthamandap Cricket Academy by 70 runs after piling up a huge 165-9 in 20 overs. Kasthamandap innings was shut down for just 95 runs in 19 overs.

Sakar Gajurel bowled miserly four-over spell conceding just four runs and picking up four wickets for Makawanpur, while Rajan Lama also took two wickets. Surendra Basnet (17), Suman Shrestha (16) and Abil KC (14) made runs in double figures for Kasthamandap.

Makawanpur didn’t have the best of the start but their middle order delivered guiding the team to a big total. Raju Yadav was the leading scorer for them making 32 off 17 with three sixes and a four.

Bishal Phuyal was the second best making 30 off 28 with three fours and a six, while Shubh Kansakar (22), Bishal Mandal (14), Saran Gautam (12) and Suraj Timalisna (12) made runs in double digits.

Irfan Khan, Ram Surat Yadav and Suman Shrestha took two wickets each for the losing side.
