Zone Riders and Chen Wen-XI set the title clash of the Donear Marwadi Premier League (MPL) at the Tribhuvan University Stadium groundson Friday.
In the first semi-final, Zone Riders made short work of Gama Strikers registering an eight-wicket victory riding on an all round performance from Sumit Kadmiya. Chen Wen overcame Tip Top-XI by 26 runs where an all round performance from Mohit Gupta made the difference.
Riders restricted Strikers to a lowly 88-9 in 15 overs before overhauling the target for the loss of two wickets with 18 balls to spare. Sumit, who had earlier picked up two Strikers’ wickets, made an unbeaten 38 off 14 with three fours and as many sixes.
Vineet Bafna also chipped in an invaluable 25 off 35 with one four. Ashish Agrawal made 10. Vikash Singh picked up the only wicket for Strikers.
Earlier, Sumit and Prashant Jain restricted Strikers with two wickets each. Rohit Sharma made 26 off 20 with four boundaries for them, while Amit Goenka (16) and Gaurav Jain (10) were other notable scoers.
Mohit smashed 64 off 37 blasting four sixes and seven boundaries before Chen Wen were 115 all out in 14.3 overs. Mohit then returned to pick up 4-13 from three overs as Tip Top were restricted for 89-9 in 15 overs.
Ashu Kandoi made 30 off 27 with four boundaries for Tip Top, while Anubhav Ranasaria (17) and Sumit Sharma (12) also made runs in double figures. Ritesh Maheshwary also picked up three crucial wickets for Chen Wen. Ritesh was also the second best scorer in Chen Wen innings making 23 off 22 with three hits to the fence.
