Regmi’s century of wickets in WCL

Nepal’s left arm off spinner Basanta Regmi became the first man on the plane to take 100 wickets in the World Cricket League tournaments after he dismissed the Netherlands opener Stephan Myburgh in their second match of the ICC World Cricket League Division-II in Windhoek, Namibia on Sunday.


Basanta reached 100 wickets of 48 WCL games and behind him is Afghanistan paceman Hamid Hassan who has 79 wickets from 42 matches. Afghanistan skipper Mohammad Nabi is the third in WCL’s highest wicket taker’s list with 67 scalps from 46 games.


Besides Basanta, left arm orthodox bowler Shakti Gauchan has the highest number of wickets in WCL games. Shakti has 40 wickets from 39 games and in is in the 26th spot overall. Basanta has so far taken four wickets in the Division-II in Namibia.


He was instrumental in Nepal’s historic victory against the Dutch after his figures of 2-22 from 10 overs handed them a two-wicket win against a team that has already four World Cups appearance to their name.


Basanta had taken six wickets during the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier in New Zealand last year. The Qualifier also served as Division-II from where Nepal were relegated back to Division-III before once again winning promotion in October in Malaysia last year.


He has 26 wickets from 14 matches of two Division-V tournaments, 35 wickets from 13 matches in two Division-IV tournaments and 26 wickets from 13 matches in two Division-III tournaments.
