A record opening wicket stand between Madhu Thapa and Sita Rana Magar gave Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club a whopping 175-run victory over Region-IV (Bhairhawa) in the Women’s National Tournament on Monday.
Madhu and Sita shared 134-run for the first wicket that helped their middle order to build and post a mammoth 279-6 in 40 overs. The openers surpassed the previous best stand of 114 from Barsha Rana and Prabina Khadgi against Region-IX (Kanchanpur) during the last edition.
Bhairahawa in reply were bundled out for 104 in 30.3 overs with only their skipper Indu Berma putting some fight against a tight APF bowling. Berma shared 35 runs for the fifth wicket with Melina Thapa (14). She made 42 off 58 with six boundaries.
Kriti Sen, who made 15 off eight with three fours, was Bhairahawa’s only remaining batswoman to make runs in double figures. Karuna Bhandari picked up 4-13 from 4.3 overs to destroy Bhairahawa. Rubin Chhetri also took 2-16 from seven, while Sarita Magar, Binu Budha Magar and Sita had one scalp apiece.
Earlier, Madhu and Sita scored fluently before the latter lost her wicket to Indu for 39 off 51. She hit four boundaries. Madhu shared another 49 for the second wicket with Jyoti Pandey (11) as APF headed towards a big total.
Madhu was out for a run-a-ball 85 with 14 boundaries. Ritu Kanjoya did the rest making 42 not out off 39 with four hits to the fence. Binu made 11 not out. Sarswoti Pun took 3-40 for Bhairahawa who conceded 66 extras.
