Reactions to govt decision to dissolve CAN

The government on Thursday dissolved the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) following a cabinet decision. It was a decision that took everyone by surprise as it came after the Youth and Sports Minister’s admission in June who said that dissolving an elected board was not possible because of the possible concern from ICC and ACC. However, it not only dissolved the current committee and brought a new one under the former president Binay Raj Pandey. Here we are compiling few reactions from some of the top-notch from the sports fraternity.

Yubaraj Lama (NSC Member Secretary) – A blow to democratic process. This is a government intervention that has violated National Sports Council code. This process will take each and every other association into instability.

Purushottam Paudel (Youth and Sports Minister) – This is an initiation to end uncertainty in cricket.

Dipendra Nath Sharma (Youth and Sports Ministry Secretary) – We believe that the ACC and ICC will support this decision. They have seen and understand how cricket has been run in the country. They won’t entertain corrupt and ineligible bodies.

Deepak Saud (CAN Member Spokesperson) – We will file case against the decision at Supreme Court. We will report it to the ICC and ACC

Ramesh Silwal (General Secretary of Ad-hoc Committee) – We are dreaming of One Day Status and World Cup. We will devote ourselves to achieve that.
