Left arm spinner Rahul Kumar BK made a comeback with the one-day team as the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced a 14-member squad for the ICC World Cricket League Division-III to be held in Bermuda from April 28 to May 3.
Apart from Rahul, one-day specialist opener Anil Mandal was back in the squad after missing the ACC Twenty20 Cup, while veteran Manjeet Shrestha and young Sagar Pun were the two omissions from the squad. Rahul was included for Nepal’s triumphant campaign in the ICC World Cricket League Division-IV in Malaysia last year but withdrew his name from the ACC Trophy Elite squad due to injury.
After missing two consecutive tournaments in ACC Trophy Elite and ACC Twenty20 Cup, Rahul won sneaked into the team in place of veteran Manjeet Shrestha. Manjeet had made the comeback with the national fold after two years for the ACC Twenty20 Cup and had played first two matches in the group stage. Sagar also made his debut from the senior national side with the ACC Twenty20 Cup competing in place of Anil. Dassanayake, however, considered Anil in place of Sagar. ‘
The team led by skipper Paras Khadka includes Gyanendra Malla, Subash Khakurel, Sharad Vesawkar, Binod Bhandari, Prithu Baskota, Sanjam Regmi, Basant Regmi, Shakti Gauchan, Chandra Saud, Pradeep Airee and Amrit Bhattarai.Nepal will play the United States of America, Oman, Italy, hosts Bermuda, Uganda in the World Cricket League Division-III – a gateway for the 2015 World Cup to be held jointly in Australia and New Zealand.
The two finalists after the round robin league in Division-III will reach the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier to be held in New Zealand. The 10-team Qualifier in New Zealand sends two teams in World Cup.
