Province 4 stunned Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club by one-wicket in last-ball thriller over the Manmohan Memorial Cup One Day National in Inaruwa on Saturday.
Bhuwan Karki-led APF batted first and posted a decent 215-9 in 50 overs. Anil Gurung and Bidhan Shrestha then batted sensibly before Province 4 survived a late drama to reach 216-9 in 50 overs.
Anil and Suman Ghimire (17) gave Province 4 a decent start adding 47 runs for the first wicket. Anil slammed 10 fours in his 90-ball 64. Suman’s 27-ball 17 included two hits to the fence.
After the departure of Anil, Bidhan took the team across the finishing line making a match-defining 81-ball 61 with 10 boundaries. Manjil Neupane also contributed an all important 41 off 31 deliveries.
Province 4 were in all sorts of trouble needling eight runs from the last 15 deliveries with only one wicket in hand. Mekh Bahadur Sen (seven) and Raju Gurung (four), however, held their nerve to hand Province 4 a thrilling victory and what could possibly be an entry into the semi-finals.
Province 4 will now take on Province 1 where even a defeat can guide them into the last four. For APF, Anil Sah bowled brilliantly to take 4-43 in his 10 overs of bowling. Kamal Singh Airee, Yagyaman Kumal, Bhuwan and Amar Singh Routela also picked up a wicket each for losing side.
Earlier Santosh Neupane, Kishore Mahato and Amrit Gurung picked two wickets each to restrict APF to what ultimately was a chaseable total. Santosh was economical in his 2-29 from 10 overs. Kishor also bowled effectively giving away just 35 runs. Bipin Khatri and Raju Gurung also took a wicket each.
Man-of-the-match Bidhan also had one scalp. Skipper Bhuwan topped the batting card for APF with 60- ball 36 including three fours. Irinad Ahmed added unbeaten 30 runs from 24 balls with two boundaries and a lone six of the match.
Amar (28), Kamal (27) and Anil (26) were other notable scorers for APF.
