Sudur Paschim stunned Prime Minister Cup champions Province 1 by 40 runs to inch closer to the final of the Lalipur Mayor Women’s Championship on Tuesday.
The defeat might potentially knock Province 1 out of the tournament who now have two defeats and will need tournament minnows Lumbini Province to beat Sudur Paschim on Wednesday.
Even if Lumbini do so, Province 1 have to beat Lalitpur Mayor XI by huge margin in their last league game to get ahead on net run rate.
On a day when Laxmi Saud brought the only hat-trick of the tournament to polish off the tail, Province 1 were bundled out for just 89 runs in 19.5 overs in chase of Sudur Paschim’s 129-4.
Province 1 lost opener Kajal Shrestha (four) to run out before captain Rubina Chhetri played some blazing strokes to put them in the game. Kabita Kunwar delighted Sudur Paschim bowling Rubina for a a 20-ball 27.
Rubina hit four boundaries. Kabita Joshi bowled Apsari Begam and trapped Lakita Rajbanshi leg before in consecutive deliveries to put Sudur Paschim on top. Apsari made 22 off 39 with three fours.
Laxmi, who removed key batswoman Roma Thapa in the 15th over, took three consecutive wickets in the 19th over for the treble. She returned the figures of 4-19 from 3.5 overs. Kabita Joshi and Kabita Kunwar also took two wickets each.
Sudur Paschim had a terrible after Sabnam Rai trapped Manju Bokati leg before wicket in the first ball of their innings. But Bindu Rawal held the innings with two crucial partnerships pushing them to a solid total.
Bindu added 74 runs for the second wicket with Rewati Dhami and 39 runs for the third with Kabita Joshi. Bindu made 58-ball 52, becoming the eighth batswoman to make a half century in the tournament. She hit four boundaries.
Rewati chipped in 32-ball 30 wih three fours and Kabita struck a 24-ball 21 hitting two fours. Sabnam took two wickets for Province 1.
