PM Cup performers find spots in preliminary 25 for HK matches

Prime Minister Cup One Day National cricket tournament performers Saurav Khanal and Hashim Ansari made the cut as a 25-member preliminary squad has been announced for national team’s away matches of the ICC World Cricket League Championship against Hong Kong.

Nepal, who are currently at the sixth spot in the eight-team WCLC, are scheduled to play away to Hong Kong on October 13 and 14. Saurav was named the best batsman of the PM Cup – a one-day tournament that was held in the country after three years. He had consistently made runs during that tournament.

Hashim had smashed a century against Nepal Armed Police Force Club in the PM Cup in a match which he had led the Central Region as stand-in skipper. Paras Khadka was retained as the skipper, while other members in the team include Gyanendra Malla, Sharad Vesawkar,  Sushil Kandel, Shakti Gauchan, Naresh Budhayer, Avinash Karn, Lalit Singh Bhandari, Sandeep Lamichhane, Bikram Sob, Mehboob Alam, Jitendra Mukhiya, Kushal Bhurtel, Dilip Nath, Aarif Sheikh, Sushan Bhari Shrestha, Sagar Pun, Dipendra Singh Airee, Sunil Dhamala, Basanta Regmi, Karan KC, Binod Bhandari and Sompal Kami.

The 25 players will now undergo a closed camp training before the squad is cut short to 14. The top four teams following the round robin league, will make it to the 2019 World Cup Qualifiers. Nepal need to win all their remaining matches to keep their Qualifiers hopes alive.
