Prajjwal Shahi played a match-winning knock to share a century partnership with Subendu Pandey as Region-V (Nepalgunj) hammered Region-II (Birgunj) by eight wickets in their Group ‘A’ match of the Senior One Day National Cricket Tournament at the Pulchowk Engineering College grounds on Monday.
Riding on some modest knocks from top order and a late fight from Ramnaresh Giri, Birgunj reached 198 all out in 41.1 overs. Birgunj might have though when they removed opener Siddhant Raj Shahi (16) and Anupam Singh (two) early but Prajjwal and Subendu led their chase remarkably guiding Nepalguj to 199-2 in 34 overs.
Man-of-the-match Prajjwal was the protagonist of Nepalgunj victory making 96 not out from 87 with 11 fours and a six, while Subendu made 58 off 70 with six fours. The two shared an unbeaten 160-run stand for the third wicket.
Earlier, Birgunj had a decent start after Amit Shrestha and Rabi Thapa began with a 56-run opening wicket partnership. Rabi was the chief aggressor making 43 off 42 with seven boundaries. Amit lost his wicket to Aakash Bista for 26 off 41 hitting three boundaries.
With Suraj Prasad Kurmi looking rock solid from the other end, Birgunj still had chance to put a huge total but their middle order underperformed. Suraj watched wickets falling from the other end before departing as the seventh Birgunj wicket. He made 44 off 66 with four boundaries.
Ramnaresh put some respectability to the total making 38 off 45 with six boundaries. Aanshu Kandoi chipped in 23 off 24 with three fours. Aakash picked up 4-33 from 9.1 overs, while Amar Singh Routela and Prajjwal also picked up two wickets apiece.
