Nepali bowlers continued to dominated the ACC U-19 Eastern Region cricket tournament as they eased to a seven-wicket victory over Singapore in Club Aman on Thursday.
After Sandeep Lamichhane and skipper Dipendra Singh Airee, it was young spinner Pawan Sarraf who set the tone for Nepal’s victory picking up six wickets as Singapore were 67 all out in 28.3 overs.
Nepal’s concern will be with the bat again in chase of a low total as they lost their wickets to reach 68 runs in 13.4 overs. Nepal lost Aasif Sheikh (six) with 19 runs in the board before Sandeep Sunar and Anil Sah made the game safe.
Sandeep made 20 off 35 with two boundaries and Anil scored 18 from 15 balls with three hits to the fence before both headed back to the pavilion. Sumit Maharjan (10 not out) and Sundeep Jora (seven not out) completed a successful chase.
Nepal finished Group ‘A’ winners and will now face either Malaysia or Hong Kong from Group ‘B’. Both Nepal and Singapore had already entered the semi-finals before Thursday’s match.
Earlier, seamer Kishor Mahato picked up the first two Singapore wickets before Pawan unsettled their innings. In a continuous spell, Pawan returned the figures of 6-12 from eight overs as Nepal had third consecutive bowler in the tournament with a five-wicket haul.
Spinner Sandeep Lamichhane had seven-wicket haul against Thailand before skipper Dipendra Singh Airee shine with a five-wicket haul against Bhutan on Wednesday.
Siddhant made 20 off 32 wih a boundary and a six for Singapore before losing his wicket to Pawan, while another top scorer Aaryaman Sunil (31-ball 20) fell to spinner Sandeep. Sunil hit two sixes in the match.
Dipendra also had a wicket for Nepal.
