Patriots set Rhinos for challenging total

Laltipur Patriots have given Pokhara Rhinos a target of 139 runs to win the Eliminator match of the Everest Premier League (EPL) on Wednesday.

Put in to bat first, Patriots blew away solid start provided by their openers Shankar Rana and Jaykishan Kolsawala to get restricted to a what looked like a challenging total.

Shankar and Kolsawala added 60 runs for the first wicket inside 10 overs but Rhinos hit back with quick wickets to reduce them to 76-5 in 13.2 overs.

Kolsawala was first to go, bowled by Israrullah for 28 off 22 balls hitting three boundaries and a six. Skipper Gyanendra Malla then lost his wicket for just two after he was trapped leg before by Sushan Bhari Shrestha.

Shankar made 34 off 43 with five boundaries and was third wicket down bowled by Bhari. Israrullah then picked wickets in consecutive deliveries removing Kushal Bhurtel (eight) and Sonu Tamang (duck) in the 14th over.

Indian pair of Sunny Patel and Dipesh Bhandari did some quick scoring with a late onslaught to push Patriots towards a challenging total.

Sunny top scored for the team with a 26-ball 38 hitting three sixes and two boundaries. Dipesh made 19 off 17 with a boundary. The two shared a partnership of 62-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

Israrullah returned the figures of 3-14 from four overs and Bhari got 2-33 from his four.
